Beginner’s Guide to WarTide
If you are reading this, you probably have tried Wartide and find the game interesting. So here is a beginner’s guide to help you get started and moving. Credit to all the folks that have helped me so far especially the folks in my alliance Forlegend.
The game play is in 5 different areas 1. Campaign 2. Arena 3. Realms 4. Trials 5. Seige. In addition there is daily challenge, world boss challenge and alliance campaign. So plenty to do in a day with the limited energy you have. I will cover each separately. Needless to say this game is based on 5 hero team for battles (and 1 tower of choice for defense in Arena).
There are multiple areas to shop 1) Emporium that refreshes daily along with ships that dock there with diff items 2) Arena Shop 3) Trial Shop and 4) Alliance Shop. In addition there are missions you should do as much as you can. They run automatically with timers and give some gold/mana/energy.
Before you get too far – make sure you join a good alliance. They are really good to give you advise and also help you as you can use one hero from the other players heros for campaigns/realms.
Also you get one free spin at fortune teller. Do the free one. Game seems to be rigged in rewards for using gems in this area. Have tried a few times with same bs results and speaking to other players – they have had same results. So just stick to one free spin a day here.
So let’s get on with gameplay.
The game gets you started on this with some Heroes and of course you gain some along the way. Way you unlock heroes is with relics and treasures chests (using keys) and hidden treasures that pop up from time to time in campaign (hidden treasures requires gems to unlock items – more on this later). You level these heroes by gaining experience (capped at your main character level) and then you level their abilities using mana. In addition gem’s help you level heroes rank (1-10) that unlock additional abilities 3 and 4. Each of the abilities can be increased to hero level (max 45 capped at max hero level that is capped by max player level).
Most FAQ of late in world chat – what are Chione’s scrolls. Unlike game description I still have found no link to this to trials as they claim. In fact, for the final ability – 5th ability, once you are rank 10, you use 10 Chione’s scrolls. You get 72 hours to finish battle to awaken a hero to unlock the 5th ability using 10 Chione scrolls. You get as many attempts as you want with food need increasing with each battle. The food need resets daily for this. General consensus is wait till you are around 90k in power to start this (there is no exact number). However with the latest update, there is “no risk” in trying this as soon as available. Reason is, if you are unable to complete in 72 hours, you simply start again. But for most players, this issue will not come till later.
So how do you go about getting experience/mana etc for players to level ? Many ways but we will go one step at a time starting with Campaigns
The game starts by walking through a few battles in Campaigns. This is where you spend the most time per day either leveling or farming or both. There are 3 modes (Normal/Elite/Hell) and 8 different campaign areas that you can progress through. Once you finish a campaign, you unlock elite and once you finish that you unlock hell. You will probably move through many stages first before going normal/elite/hell as you need considerable more level/power for your heroes. For e.g. normal mode of stage 2 is a lot easier than hell mode of stage 1. This game is set that to reach max character level 45 you have to clear all 8 campaigns with 3 stars (no heroes dying while you finish battle). As I said earlier, a good alliance helps as you can use alliance hero (one per battle) from “guardian tab”.
Hero combination (for the 5 you use) and how you set them up for battle matters. There are plenty of options but obviously a good setup will likely require at least one tank (like akanth), some dps and 1 healer.
If you get stuck (as in cannot win a battle), you probably need to spend some time farming/leveling heroes and also ensuring that you are increasing their abilities to max level. You also get dweller campaigns that give you gold and runes. Runes are very important to make sure you are equipping your heroes with runes and also leveling higher level runes with gold. You also get hidden treasures that require gems to unlock. Most people unlock only if there is a hero they want in the treasure.
So use this to progress your main level that in turns enable’s leveling hero level and abilities and when capped or cant progress, farm the area. This is also helpful for team expansion. So for example you are already level 45 and have your core team. You still farm this area to level other heros and get gold / runes / mana etc to give you a good team. You also can farm hero relics to level them (not legendary) so you can get stronger by just farming for the 2 star and 3 star (non legendary heros).
If any of you has played a game like world of Warcraft, you can always use 1-2 v strong heros in campaign with weak ones to help level them through battles for higher levels that give you more experience.
My basic strategy to maximize benefit is wait for full level of energy + 60 food available in mission (lunch or dinner). Activate the once a day 30 minute timer to double experience etc. Now you go farming so you get max benefit. I use gem for additional 350 food to maximize my farm run benefit/experience since I am still early in the game and building a team. You don’t have to spend gems on food. But this way you at least get your max energy (based on your level) + 60 food + 30 food (from daily activity) to maximize the bonus 30 minute time.
This is where you do PVP battle. Basically you get 3 choices of opponents to choose from after each battle (you can refresh the list using gold). One interesting secret I wanna share based on my experience is history tab shows you attack/defense log. Under defense log you can attack the player that you lost against. So that might sometimes be better/easier option to fight if the 3 choices are too hard to fight and win against without using gold to refresh list. Since defense is automated, just because you lost defense does not mean you will lose if you attack them back.
Also do not forget to set up your defense team which includes tower. Your position gets your arena shop tokens (plus each battle win) that helps you get items from the shop. You can also level your towers and choose different ones. To be honest there is so much strategy and team setup discussion here (for defense and attack) that it is probably a whole different topic (and more advanced than beginner’s guide). Suffice to say your defense set up matters in terms of how you line up the heroes/towers across rows/columns and also how their abilities fire.
For most top players, this is their “end game” – to be at highest level in arena (PVP).
Basically with this you get to keep leveling thru tiers and clearing each stage gives you runes and clearing all stages unlocks new trier. There are 3 currently (a) Dweller Vault b) Vanishing Sorcerer c) Children of Talos). Each one is reset to free attempt daily (if you don’t go to next tier you can retry using 20 food and so on). You can also use one guardian (alliance member hero) in battle which can make a huge difference. This should be something you do daily as you get runes and frankly its free attempt once a day. The rewards for clearing the tiers (5 star runes and gold) are well worth it!!!
Unlocked after clearing part of stage 6. Once unlocked you get one free reset a day. So once again, must to do daily. Don’t rush this. Go as far as you can daily. Each stage cleared gives you decent loot (gold/mana and tokens for trial shop). Each tier gives you 1 silver clear (first time cleared) and 1 gold key (every 5th tier cleared). Hero’s that die in battle basically remain dead till you reset the tier (using gems) and/or clear the tier using other hero. Each battle state continues to next. So if you have max energy and one of your hero is at 50% health, that’s how you start next stage. Also if your team dies during one stage and you kill some of enemies, that’s how the next attempt starts on same stage. So as you build a larger team of heroes you might be able to progress even after hero deaths depending on your team and their levels.
Another area of game unlocked that is a different kind of pvp. There are weekly rewards based on your rank here. Honestly it’s fun but will use good amount of gold to level and frankly needs a large team to defend (as you have one main area and then many defense areas where you also defend using heros). My humble opinion is this is once you have grown pretty well and hence feel free to ignore this area at first (to basically use your gold elsewhere) and once you have a good team, you can focus here. This basically means it’s not a topic to cover more in a beginner’s guide as by the time you start on this, you will have a really good idea of game dynamics and figure this one out on your own or advanced guides.
As I mentioned, finding a good alliance is key. Experienced players give you great advise, help with their big heros. In addition, you also have alliance campaigns that help you get gold/alliance shop tokens that also get you items. If one alliance does not work, try another. There are plenty and most if not all are recruiting. This is a new game. Try to get in a good team and have fun.
You can choose the troop type in battles as well. At the beginning there is a default troop type and if you are like me, you pay no attention to this. However, just like heroes, there are different troop types and they are good since their attributes apply to every ally. Also more importantly these troops can be also made 5* using their own relic types and also their level can be increased using the same potions that one uses for heroes. If you go to the Heroes building, you will see this on the top right corner.
Many items are available in stores. 1) Emporium plus travelling ships that dock from time to time. For most of these ships you can watch an ad for 1 free item (not all ships). 2. Shop at Trials 3. Shop at Arena 4. Shop in Alliance. So many ways to get different items for different currencies.
Some FAQ not covered:
1. Best use of gems – Really depends on how much you want to spend on game. For people not spending, I would say save them for legendary hero’s only. For rest, I have used for food/mana/items in shop. But honestly use sparingly for other things.
2. Runes – Its a topic by itself. Try to level only higher level ones to conserve gold.
